The Not-So-Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

It is with good reason that adoptions with Vietnam must again come to an end. Please click on the link next to the little girl sleeping. Read the post for April 25th. It is a long read but unfortunately there is a great deal of negative dealings going on in Vietnam with adoptions to report. It is a relief to know that our agency's lack of referrals may be due to the fact that they never were involved with any of the bribing or "donations" of the orphanage directors. Maybe my next statement is said out of green envy. But, if we had received a referral, we would have always wondered if our daughter came to us by means such as described by the Embassy's report. I am sure adoptive parents will comfort themselves for mere self-preservation by believing that their agency would never do anything like that. In the back of their minds, they would have to consider the possibility and if they don't then they were in this for themselves and not for the right reasons. Hopefully, in the future, the VN government will solely control the state of adoptions and not allow individual providences to go unchecked. Unfortunately, European countries such as Italy and Germany, who adopt from Vietnam, do not hold VN accountable for their actions with adoptions. Babies will still be adopted in the same style as currently described. The demand will go down which will hopefully stifle the need to go seeking babies for international adoption. In the end, those orphans truly needing forever homes are less likely now to find that loving famlily.
