She Cries At Night

Tomorrow is two weeks home. She is doing really well. We had our home visit with the social worker and reviewed our goals and realistic time lines. Her reluctance to go to Steve for any physical contact is the first goal that will need to be met. Another caregiver cannot be introduced and any prolonged separation from me cannot be done until her bond with him is solid.

He steals kisses and hugs from her while she's sleeping. She seems to be grieving while she's sleeping and will roll onto one of us in her sleep which quiets her cries. If the night is especially difficult, she tends to need more hugs and holding the next day which is ok by me. Last night was the first time we heard English from her in her sleep so hopefully she's beginning to have better dreams.

Her vocabulary is coming along but she mostly speaks in Korean. She repeats almost everything but rarely uses her English spontaneously to communicate with us. Thankfully, she's a good walker and can lead us by the hand to show us what she wants. We cannot believe how much she eats and how often. It's been a delicate balance of allowing bonding to continue while trying to manage a typical 2 year old. We're doing pretty well cause she's just too cute and laughs when you redirect her to a better choice.

To my lovebug: In time, Aspen will come to love and trust her new daddy. In her little mind, she was "given away" by a man she loved and trusted. Someday she will understand this was part of a plan for her new life.
The only time her daddy will ever "give her away" is the special day that she stands in a wedding gown, next to a wonderful man she has choosen to love and trust. One thing for certain, she will be "daddy's little girl" forever. Love, Mom

I'm so glad to hear that she is making progress. I'm sure it is hard but it sounds like you are all doing well overall. I hope she is able to find a place of comfort with Steve very soon.
