2007-820 Visas
In the year 2007, the US issued 820 visas for adoptions in Vietnam which out numbers the amount of adoptions prior to the closure of adoptions. The most recent number given for dossiers in Vietnam waiting for referrals was about 2000. Even though when I research the web there seems to be sooo many babies coming home from Vietnam, the numbers show that there are over twice the amount of people waiting. I would prefer to be one of the 820 than one of the 2000 but whatcha gonna do? There has not been any new news from either country on recent developments or negotiations, but the beginning of March did have a lot of action from everyone working on strengthening the relationship of VN and US adoptions. It will take some time for the fine tuning and decision making to be done on all of the proposed solutions for adoptions to continue. - From our agency, the six possible referrals which were mentioned in January, five fell through but one referral did go out to a family who proclaims they were number 8 on the agency's list. Those five lost referrals created such an uproar from those close to #8 that I doubt we will ever be offered even a crumb of information on possible referrals in the future. Sometimes, the squeaky wheel does not get the oil but instead it gets put in the solitary garage for fear that it will start to squeak again. Nothing new and nothing bad so on we go waiting for the agency to become Hague accredited and for VN to define "in-process" for the pending Sept 1 expiration or decide on an alternative system to keep adoptions going without delay.
